Biotechnology Healthcare Publication Ethics And Malpractice Statement

Biotechnology Healthcare publishes peer-reviewed articles for decision makers at third-party payer organizations; employers and other healthcare purchasers; and other healthcare stakeholders who are involved in the management of or have an interest in the clinical, economic, and health policy implications of biopharmaceuticals and molecular diagnostics. We publish articles on such topics as emerging biologic therapies, personalized medicine, benefit design and cost management issues, formulary management, genetic testing, patient access and affordability, and healthcare legislation that may affect the manufacture and use of biologics and diagnostics. We welcome original research, essays, and review articles from qualified experts in biologics, specialty pharmacy, managed care, and employer benefits design and management.

Biotechnology Healthcare is indexed by CINAHL and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, and is published on PUBMED Central.

Ethical Guidelines

Biotechnology Healthcare is committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint, or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. The Biotechnology Healthcare Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals, publishers, and authors where this is useful or advisable. Biotechnology Healthcare is committed to following best practices on ethical matters, errors, and retractions, and to provide legal review if necessary.

Instructions for Authors

Biotechnology Healthcare accepts manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration for publication by other print or electronic media. We ask that authors of essays, review articles, original research, and other nonfeature articles to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Unless otherwise specified herein, manuscripts should conform to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and available at http://www.icmje.org. Please review Section 4 of the Uniform Requirements before submitting work.

  • Manuscripts should be no more than 4,000 words including abstract, references, and tables but not including figures or illustrations. Include an abstract summarizing key points and key terms. Written permission from publishers to reproduce previously published illustrations and tables is required.

  • Drug Names: Use the generic drug name when identifying a pharmaceutical product with the accompanying brand name in parenthesis where pertinent.
  • References: All references in text must be placed within parentheses showing the first author’s last name and the year of publication, e.g., (Smith 2008). Include a list of references (alphabetical by first author), and format each citation in accordance with the American Medical Association Manual of Style (10th edition). Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references.

Acknowledgement of sources: Any information obtained privately in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties must not be used or reported without explicit permission from the source.

Originality and plagiarism: Authors should ensure that they have written original works. Any work or words of other authors, contributors, or sources (including online sites) should be appropriately credited and referenced.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Authors are required to disclose any financial or other conflict of interest that could be construed to influence the substance of their manuscript. Transfer of Copyright

Biotechnology Healthcare accepts manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration for publication by other print or electronic media. Should Biotechnology Healthcare publish a submission, authors agree to transfer the copyright to Biotechnology Healthcare. Note that articles written by U. Please include a cover letter with your submission that includes the following information:

  • Manuscript title and a brief explanation of its importance to our readers.
  • A statement affirming that this work is not under consideration for publication by other media and that it has not been published elsewhere.
  • A list of all authors. Authorship is defined by Section 2 of the Uniform Requirements. For each author, include full name, advanced degrees, pertinent affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.
  • Designation of a corresponding author.
  • Signed consent to transfer copyright to Biotechnology Healthcare on publication.
  • Completed and signed Disclosure of Commercial Support form.

Review Process

Biotechnology Healthcare will review the manuscript for appropriateness and will notify the corresponding author whether it is under consideration for publication. Articles under such consideration will be sent to expert peer reviewers selected by the editor. Manuscripts recommended by peer reviewers for publication are edited in-house. If the reviewers recommend extensive revisions, authors may be asked to revise their work and then to resubmit the article.

Biotechnology Healthcare reserves the right to edit text for clarity, style, and length. Final drafts will be sent to authors for review before publication.

Articles published in Biotechnology Healthcare become the property of MediMedia USA and may not be reproduced without permission of the publisher.

Editorial Procedures

Biotechnology Healthcare’s editorial procedures are guided by the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. The Managing Editor also may be guided by the policies of the journal’s editorial board and may confer with other editors or reviewers when necessary.

Manuscripts will be evaluated for their content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

Articles under consideration for publication will be sent to expert peer reviewers selected by the managing editor. Manuscripts recommended by peer reviewers for publication are edited inhouse. If the reviewers recommend extensive revisions or have question, authors may be asked to revise their manuscript and then resubmit the article. Reviewers will treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and will treat any manuscripts submitted for review as confidential documents.
